Maths Week Ireland a hit with more than 300,000 participants.

Highlights of our Week

Maths Week Ireland is the largest event of its type in the world and this year was no exception. This short article with some wonderful photographs, all taken by Lorcan Doherty, showcases some of the ways in which we help to raise the profile of mathematics, both in schools and in the public psyche.

Here are some of the highlights of our fabulous week working as part of the Maths Week Ireland Team, bringing the magnificent subject of mathematics to the forefront of peoples’ minds for at least one week in the year!

Cross Border

Bringing maths to children all across the island of Ireland is what we are all about. The picture below was taken in St. Eunan’s NS, Laghey, Co. Donegal during a visit by pupils from St. Martin’s PS, Garrison, County Fermanagh. We also held cross border events in Thornhill College, Derry and in Letterkenny ETNS, Donegal, the latter involving six visiting schools from three counties: Donegal, Derry and Tyrone.

Family Events

Parents and their children coming together in groups to spend time working on maths challenges is a rarity, but during Maths Week we get the chance to focus on providing opportunities to make this happen. The picture below was taken in St. Olcan’s PS, Armoy, Co. Antrim. Any schools wishing to schedule a family maths event, please contact us anytime.

Visiting Speakers

Aside from our own workshops, family events, teacher training sessions and school cluster events, we also help move Maths Week forward in the North West of Ireland. One of the ways we can help is by organising visiting speakers and workshops on behalf of the Maths Week Ireland Team. One of these events was the visit of Andrew Jeffery to Rosemount Primary and Nursery School.

As can be seen from the photograph below, Andrew thoroughly both entertained and educated children from 4 different primary schools, over two morning and afternoon sessions. Well done Andrew and thank you for coming.
